Kokua for the Pacific
In Hawaiian, Kokua means help or cooperate, and that's exactly what everyone in town did to raise money for victims of various natural disasters in the Pacific region. Musicians, promoters, radio stations, sound companies and more, all came together for a great cause.

KAPA radio in Kona threw its annual Halloween block party and John was the main event. He's had some pretty strange people show up at gigs over the years, but this night topped the list.

KWXX Ho'olaule'a
The Ho'olaule'a is when Hilo residents jam the streets of downtown and come together as a community for food, music, crafts and good fun. John and his band played for about 10,000 happy campers before the rain came. Check out the video of "Missing You."

If you live in California's Sierra Foothills and love music, KVMR is your station. They play just about every genre you can think of, including a very solid offering of Hawaiian music. John talked story with Michael Keene, before performing at World Fest.

Jammin at World Fest
Families, hippies, yippies, even yuppies turned out in droves to camp, eat, drink beer and of course, listen to great music at the incomparable California World Fest in the Sierra Foothills. John played 3 shows here over the weekend and got to hear some of his own favorite bands as well.

Oahu Slack Key Festival
Each year, Milton Lau brings together the finest guitarists in Hawaii and brings them around to various islands to showcase the art of ki ho'alu, or slack key guitar. At the Oahu festival, John invited half the lineup to join him on stage for Island Style and a few other songs.

Sustainability on Molokai
Walter Ritte and other legendary residents of Molokai invited John to play a concert to raise awareness for a sustainable lifestyle on Hawaii's Friendly Isle. John played the concert with his cousin Amy Hanaiali'i and ended up practicing some sustainability of his own, with his fly fishing rod and reel.

Haul Away on Martha's Vineyard
The Black Dog makes great shirts and coffee cups, but they also host a pretty fantastic concert series aboard the Tall Ship Alabama each summer. The boat sets sail on Vineyard Sound at sunset with John helming the music and a great crew taking care of everything else.

Everyone loves Yoshi's in Oakland. The great Japanese food, the warm atmosphere and the fantastic acoustics make it an East Bay favorite. John, Ledward and Hapa sold out 4 shows in a row here with their powerhouse lineup.

Hana Hou at Keauhou

Trader Vic's in LA
Trader Vic's is reminiscent of Hollywood's bygone days of glamour and schmoozing where movie deals were made over mai tai's. It's now located in Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles and caters to a different crowd.

International Day of Surfing
You really don't have to proclaim a special day to get surfers to go in the water, but the Ventura Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation did it anyway, to raise money and awareness for their cause.

One Paddle, Two Paddle
Paddlers from all over California came together in Avila Beach for the Pale Kai Canoe Club regatta. They invited John to do a concert the night before the race and to play during the race itself.

Upcountry Fair
Leave your slippers at home and put on your cowboy boots. Maui's Upcountry Fair is about rodeo, 4H, farmer's markets and down home family fun. John and his dad played a few sets together at this annual event.
